Alexis Self

Alexis Self joined Atlas Law Center as a law graduate and is committed to advocating for employees who have experienced discrimination and other unfair treatment in the workplace. She has clerked with Atlas Law Center since 2024 and plans to join the firm as an associate in Fall 2026, upon successful completion of the bar exam.

Before attending law school, Alexis worked in several industries, including retail management and insurance implementation and contract analysis. Her professional experience gave her a strong foundation for understanding business decisions, workplace dynamics, and employment opportunities. While she is grateful for the experiences and relationships she gained throughout her career, Alexis ultimately felt called to the legal profession and to using her skills to advocate for others.

Experience & Approach

Alexis earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law, in 2026, graduating in the top 15% of her class. She previously earned a Master of Business Administration from Grand Canyon University in 2022 and a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in Fashion Merchandising from LIM College in 2020.

Throughout law school, Alexis remained committed to academic excellence, advocacy, and community impact. As a Central High School Fellow, she taught high school students about Street Law and constitutional law, helping make legal education more accessible while empowering young people with knowledge about their rights and the legal system.

Alexis also served as President of Parents Attending Law School (PALS), a student organization focused on supporting law student parents as they balance family and academic responsibilities. During her first two years of law school, she served on the Student Bar Association, representing her class in student government.

Her commitment to legal education and employment law extended into her professional work. Alexis contributed as an author to the Kentucky Employment Law Treatise for Lexis, researched state leaves for Mother’s Esquire, and served as a pupil with the Brandeis Inn of Court during her final year of law school. She also worked as a law clerk with Indiana Legal Services, providing legal support to low-income individuals.

Alexis plans to continue her work in employment law, representing employees who have experienced discrimination and other forms of unfair treatment in the workplace. She approaches her work with a commitment to listening to others, understanding their experiences, and using her legal knowledge to help individuals navigate challenging circumstances.

Why I Practice Law

Alexis’s path to the legal profession was non-traditional, but that journey deepened her commitment to using the law as a tool for advocacy and education.

She chose to pursue a legal career because she believes in empowering others through knowledge and skilled representation. Through her clerkships and internships during law school, Alexis had the opportunity to put that belief into practice by providing legal support and helping others better understand their rights.

For Alexis, practicing law is an opportunity to continue learning and growing while using her knowledge and experience to support and advocate for others. She is particularly drawn to employment law because it allows her to help employees who may be facing discrimination or other difficult circumstances in the workplace.

Outside the Office

Outside of her legal career, Alexis enjoys reading, hiking, and spending quality time with her family.

Family has been an important part of Alexis’s law school journey. Just before beginning law school, she welcomed twin boys, Sylas and Sawyer. During her final year of law school, she and her husband, Skyler, welcomed their third son, Slayton, who arrived just four days before her graduation.

Throughout law school, Alexis was supported by her husband, Skyler, whom she has been married to for nearly eight years. Her experience balancing law school, motherhood, and family has been an important part of her journey and reflects the resilience and dedication she brings to her professional life.
