John M. Ruzzin

Associate Attorney

John M. Ruzzin brings a unique combination of scientific training, litigation experience, and advocacy to his work as an attorney. He joined Atlas Law Center in 2026, bringing his background in science, courtroom experience, and legal advocacy to his practice. Before attending law school, John studied Cellular Biology at Kansas State University, where he conducted research in areas including embryology and microbiology. After college, he taught English as a Second Language at a middle school in Kansas City before earning his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Following law school, John was admitted to the State Bar of Wisconsin and served as a Wisconsin State Assistant District Attorney. As a prosecutor, he drew on his legal knowledge, scientific background, and ability to connect with people to build a strong trial record and serve the State of Wisconsin.

Experience & Approach

John attended Kansas State University as a National Merit Scholar, earning a degree in Cellular Biology in 2018. During his undergraduate studies, he worked in a variety of laboratory settings, studying embryology and microbiology. His academic interests also included developing a micronutrient fertilizer for potatoes and studying the embryological development of turtles.

After college, John spent a year teaching English Language Learners at Summit Trail Middle School in Kansas City. The experience gave him an opportunity to work closely with students and families from diverse backgrounds while developing the communication and interpersonal skills that would later become important to his legal career.

John attended the University of Wisconsin Law School, graduating in 2023. While in law school, he served as Vice President of the Christian Legal Society and was a member of the Wisconsin Law Review. He also interned with several advocacy organizations, including the Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF) and the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL), as well as the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office.

During his internships, John developed significant legal research and writing experience. His work included briefs that were directly quoted by Justices of the California Supreme Court.

After graduating from law school, John served as a Wisconsin State Assistant District Attorney. His experience as a prosecutor provided him with substantial courtroom and trial experience and allowed him to develop his skills in legal analysis, advocacy, and litigation.

Why I Practice Law

John’s path to the legal profession has been shaped by a lifelong interest in science, advocacy, and service. His scientific background taught him to approach complex problems carefully and analytically, while his experience as a teacher and prosecutor strengthened his ability to communicate effectively and advocate for others.

Growing up throughout the Midwest, John learned the importance of family, faith, and principle. Those values continue to influence his approach to his work and his commitment to serving his clients.

Outside the Office

Outside of work, John enjoys all lake-related activities, board games and strategy games of all kinds, baseball, field archery, and fiction. Most of all, he enjoys spending time doing the things his wife, Leah, is excited about doing together.
