Matthew Marlowe

Attorney Matthew Marlowe joined Atlas Law Center in August 2026, where he represents clients in employment and consumer protection matters. His practice focuses on helping workers and individuals stand up for their rights when they have been treated unfairly by an employer, business, or other organization.

Experience & Approach

Matthew began his legal career at Legal Aid of North Carolina, where he represented low-income and indigent tenants facing eviction in Guilford and Rowan Counties. He also worked with the UNC Innocence Project, experiences that strengthened his commitment to using the law to advocate for people whose voices may otherwise go unheard.

He later moved into plaintiffs’ side civil litigation, representing workers in FLSA collective actions and Rule 23 class actions against large corporate employers to recover unpaid wages and overtime. His litigation experience includes taking and defending depositions, briefing and arguing motions, examining witnesses, and participating in settlement negotiations, mediations, and arbitration proceedings.

Matthew believes that effective legal representation starts with listening. He takes the time to understand each client’s circumstances, explain their legal options, and help them navigate what can often be an intimidating legal process. His training in trauma-informed lawyering and cross-cultural client communication allows him to work effectively with clients from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who face language barriers.

His graduate education in Conflict Management and Resolution also informs his approach to negotiation and mediation. Matthew looks for practical solutions when possible while remaining prepared to advocate strongly for his clients when litigation is necessary.

Why I Practice Law

Matthew went into law for a simple reason: he wanted to use the law to help the little guy.

From defending tenants facing eviction to representing workers in large collective and class actions seeking unpaid wages, that purpose has remained at the heart of his career. Matthew is passionate about helping people understand their rights and making sure they have a strong advocate when they need one.

While attending the University of North Carolina School of Law, Matthew contributed to a 2022 human rights report addressing the continued use of solitary confinement in North Carolina. He has also participated in the National Employment Lawyers Association, reflecting his continued commitment to workers’ rights and employment law.
